It's fun to jazzy up a traditional fettuccine alfredo dish with something other than chicken. Salmon is a great substitute. You can create this dish in under 12 minutes. I cooked up my bacon earlier in the day and put it in the fridge until I crumbled it up at the end. Let me tell you how!
Boil your water and drop your pasta. Depending on how you like your pasta (al dente or soft) it'll take around 7-11 minutes.
Next you can start your alfredo sauce. I used a package sauce but you can also purchase it in bottle form or if you are really brave you can make it from scratch. I find the package stuff is the least fattening of all options. Just be sure to remember to whisk, whisk, whisk!
So you have 4 burners on your stove and the last burner will be sauteeing mushrooms! You can always omit them if you don't like these little fungi. You could also add green or red peppers if you prefer too. Lots of options.
As things are cooking and finishing up you can drain your pasta then put it back in the pot and combine it with the alfredo sauce. Put things on LOW so things don't burn or dry out on you. Pull out your bacon that has been previously cooked and you can fry it up in a pan just to warm it up some. I put my finished mushrooms in with the salmon pan and then used that pan to heat up the bacon.
So now to plate it up! I took some pictures along the way so you can see the end result. It was delicious and very filling... all in 12 minutes! Beat that Rachel Ray!
